With the extremely positive reaction to Yash Chopra's cross-border romance Veer Zaara, starring Shah Rukh, Preity Zinta and Rani Mukerji that was screened as a part of 55th Berlinale Film Festival, it made sense to give Germans what they seemed to fancy, in their own language.
