("Looking back, it would have been a lot easier to jump into one of the offers handed to me, but it would have been a mistake to try and be somebody I wasn't. My heart just wasn't into being a ballad singer or creating a teenybopper image. I've always felt more comfortable with a rock edge to my music and I wanted to develop that sound. It's been a long and challenging road over the last two years, but well worth the waitPhoto: http://http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/060926/latu080.html?.v=73

Hollywood stars brought to book-Sharon stone...

The book, for which he reportedly received a seven-figure advance, is a string of glittering anecdotes with edge, bonbons with a bitter center.
Everett is a waspish observer of the celebrity A-list, from Madonna ("she oozed sex appeal") to Julia Roberts ("beautiful and tinged with madness") to Sharon Stone ("utterly unhinged").
The book is a sort of Rough Guide to late 20th- century highlife and lowlife that moves from London to Paris, New York, St Tropez, LA's Laurel Canyon and Miami's South Beach. There are walk-on parts for Andy Warhol, Elizabeth Taylor, Orson Welles, Bob Dylan, Donatella Versace and a host of other luminaries. Everett seems to know everyone, remember all and recount everything. ..Read more...

Rang De Basanti for Oscars

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Rang De Basanti, India’s official submission for the best foreign language film Oscar, has much going for it although this critic would personally have preferred Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara.

In cinematic terms, it is a work of some merit, but the question is: will Rang De Basanti be able to sway the voters of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences quite ..Read more...

Wal-mart denies Hollywood threats over digital services

Wal-Mart has denied a report that it told Hollywood movie studios to expect retaliation if they began selling feature film downloads through Apple's iTunes Store.
The US retail giant and Asda-owner described the report in the New York Post, as 'a rehashing of misinformation', possibly referring to a BusinessWeek article last month which suggested that Wal-Mart was attempting to dissuade studios.
'Customers want to watch movies and they want to be able to make the choice when and how they want to view them,' the Wal-Mart spokeswoman said. 'While we recognise there are various current and potential providers of this service, we are not dissuading studios from conducting business with other providers...Read more...

Celebrity advertising pays in the long run

Can the rules of conventional advertising be applied to public service messages? Certainly, said Pranesh Misra, president and COO, Lintas India addressing an audience of students and corporates at the India Brand Summit.

“If the principles of mainline communication to promote public awareness, they would in fact become far more effective,” said Misra, adding that the use of celebrities to promote AIDS or leprosy awareness was a perfect example. “The message is amplified by using a celebrity,” he explained.

Is gay marriage more of a 'danger' than Hollywood?

Is gay marriage more of a 'danger' than Hollywood?
Many letters in recent weeks assert that same-sex marriage undermines the sanctity of traditional marriage ["Same-sex marriage and interracial vows don't equate," Sept. 12].
These defenders of our morality fail to recognize a greater danger to the status quo. One need only review the movie magazines to observe that our role models in Hollywood do more to undermine marriage than gay couples.
When famous movie actors have children out of wedlock, and the public clamors for photographs of such children, what are the youth of America to think about marriage? They must certainly conclude that marriage is not a requirement of parenthood.
So one must then ask which is a greater danger to the institution of marriage--the marriage of a couple whose union cannot lead to children, or children who are borne to heterosexual couples who are not married?

Why Bipasha refused film with Emraan?http://http://www.indiatarget.com/cgi-bin/detailnews.cgi?id=3549

Bipasha Basu was approached for doing Parvin Babi's role in forthcoming ‘Woh Lamhe' which focuses Parvin's alleged relationship with filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt. However Bipasha turned down the offer and newcomer Kangana Ranaut stepped into her shoes. As per Bipasha, she refused the film because of actor Emraan Hashmi, who was supposed to play opposite her. Though, later Emraan too backed out of the film because he felt that he does not have a very strong role in the film. And Shiney Ahuja got roped in. In a recent interview Bipasha said, it's not a kiss-phobia or anything like that, which scared her to pair up with kiss king Emraan. “I am way too tall and big for him and it wouldn't look slick,” said Bipasha. “Emraan is great at his work. I know him from the days he was an assistant director. My only problem is his physicality, so far, he has worked with petite heroines; I am way too tall and big for him,” said Bipasha
